Safety Tips

Here at Cool Approach we're keen to make sure you're safe whilst you're online. Make sure that when you're chatting to friends or posting stuff, you're not putting yourself in any danger, or regret what you've written! Follow these guidelines when using Cool Approach to keep you safe:

  • Once you've signed up, don't forget that your profile in Cool Approach can be seen by others. Don't post any personal info eg. your full name, phone/mobile number, home address or where you hang out after school or work.
  • Don't give too much away. You may want to tell the world you're going to a party on Saturday night, but don't give out the address. Strangers shouldn't be able to see this kind of information whereas friends can call you to find out.
  • Only upload details that you'd be happy for your parents or boss to see – d on't post anything that would embarrass you later. Think through how many of your personal thoughts you want anyone to view.
  • Make sure you know who you're talking to and ensure you approve friends before they can message you. Remember that you don't know who your friend's friends are… or your friend's friends' friends! And remember people aren't always who they say they are. Avoid meeting people in person you do not fully know. If you must meet someone, do it in a public place and bring a friend or trusted adult.
  • If anyone says anything that worries or upsets you, or if you feel someone's behaviour is inappropriate, tell someone. Talk with a trusted adult or authorities, or report it to the Cool Approach team immediately using the ‘Contact Us' link. We treat misconduct very seriously, and will remove any member from our site if we feel it necessary.
  • Don't get hooked by a phishing scam.   Phishing is a method used by fraudsters to try to get your personal information, such as your username and password, by pretending to be a site you trust. Don't ever give out your details and report this kind of activity to us using the ‘Contact Us' link.
